Kucing-Kucing Unik Yang Sangat Langka Di Dunia

Kucing, Felis silvestris catus, adalah sejenis karnivora. Kata "kucing" biasanya merujuk kepada "kucing" yang telah dijinakkan, tetapi bisa juga merujuk kepada "kucing besar" seperti singa, harimau, dan macan.

5 Temuan Medis Terheboh Sepanjang Tahun 2010

Berbagai penelitian kesehatan telah mengungkap banyak hal sepanjang tahun 2010. Dari sekian banyak, ada beberapa yang cukup mengejutkan mulai dari kolesterol jahat yang ternyata tidak semuanya jahat hingga terungkapnya efek samping pil tidur sangat ekstrem.

Dikutip dari MensHealth.com, berikut ini 5 penemuan penting sepanjang tahun 2010 yang cukup mengejutkan.

1. Tak semua kolesterol jahat (LDL) benar-benar jahat
Bertahun-tahun lamanya low density lipoprotein (LDL) atau kolesterol jahat diyakini sebagai biangnya masalah jantung dan pembuluh darah. Berbagai program diet dan pengobatan hampir selalu ditujukan untuk mengurangi kadar LDL.

Namun sebuah penelitian yang dilakukan Ronald M Krauss, MD dari Children's Hospital Oakland Research Institute meruntuhkan anggapan itu pada Agustus 2010. Krauss mengungkap partikel LDL yang besar dan halus umumnya tidak berbahaya, sementara yang berbahaya hanya partikel LDL yang memiliki ukuran kecil dan lebih padat.

2. Banyak duduk dapat memperpendek usia
Gaya hidup moderen mengharuskan banyak orang melewatkan waktunya selama berjam-jam untuk duduk di kursi. Sore atau malam harinya setelah selesai bekerja, orang-orang itu mengimbanginya dengan olahraga dan menganggap hal itu tidak menjadi masalah.

Namun penelitian yang dilakukan Marc Hamilton PhD dari Pennington Biomedical Research Center membuktikan bahwa duduk terlalu lama bisa memperpendek usia. Bahkan meski diimbangi olahraga, dampaknya akan tetap sama ketika seseorang masih melewatkan waktu berjam-jam dengan duduk terus menerus.

3. HPV juga memicu kanker mulut
Selama ini human papiloma virus (HPV) dikenal sebagai penyebab kanker leher rahim (cervix uterus). namun penelitian yang dilakukan Alyssa Giacobbe dari Women's Health menunjukkan virus tersebut juga dapat memicu kanker oropharyngeal di sekitar mulut dan kerongkongan.

Penularan virus tersebut terjadi melalui kontak seksual, terutama saat melakukan seks oral yang tidak aman dengan orang yang terinfeksi. Celakanya, begitu sudah menginfeksi maka virus tersebut tidak pernah benar-benar bisa diusir dari tubuh.

4. Pil tidur zolpidem tartrate menyebabkan 'ngelindur'
Bagi sebagian warga Amerika yang super sibuk, pil tidur sudah menjadi kebutuhan pokok sehari-hari. Namun jenis pil tidur terbaru yakni zolpidem tartrate atau dipasarkan dengan nama dagang Ambien dilaporkan memicu efek samping yang sangat mengerikan yakni parasomnia atau melakukan aktivitas yang tak dikehendaki saat tidur.

Bukan hanya berjalan saat tidur, beberapa korban Ambien mengaku tanpa sadar pernah mengemudi saat tidur lalu mengalami kecelakaan. Ada juga yang menyantap makanan saat tidur, bahkan ada yang tidak ingat apa-apa dan ketika terbangun tiba-tiba sudah ada di dalam penjara.
